Q. Do you have to be religious to go to a 12 Step rehab?
No – the 12 Steps is a spiritual philosophy that can be applied by anybody (religious or not) and has helped thousands of people to live clean, sober and happy lives. At Broadway Lodge, we interpret ‘God’ to mean ‘Good Orderly Direction’, and clients can choose to apply anything that’s important to them as their good orderly direction, whether it’s a faith, music or nature for example.
For more details about the 12 Steps, take a look at our blogs: The 12 Steps Simplified and The 12 Steps for Atheists: it’s not necessarily the God you think.
Our programme is abstinence-based and uses the 12 Steps philosophy as a part of treatment but clients will also receive one to one counselling, daily group therapy, holistic therapies and other treatments that together, will improve mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing and provide the tools that can enable clients to achieve a successful, long-term recovery.

Q. Will I have my own bedroom?
No – Clients share single-sex bedrooms with up to three other people. Addiction is an isolating illness so sharing a bedroom with others is an integral part of the treatment process. We understand the reservations that can be felt about the prospect of sharing a room we often find that these feelings soon disappear as highly supportive relationships with the peer group are built.

Q. Am I allowed my phone?
No – clients are not allowed to use any media related devices (such as mobile phones, iPads etc.) as this is a distraction from the programme and is also a safeguarding measure. Any media devices will be stored securely throughout treatment. Clients have a dedicated telephone to receive incoming calls and there is also a payphone to make outgoing calls.

Third Stage Housing
For some clients an extended period of support following residential treatment can help them to adjust and re-integrate into community living. We have many local contacts who provide third stage housing in North Somerset and Bristol and our friendly Support Workers can help you to arrange this accommodation whilst in treatment to ensure a smooth transition.
