It is with some sadness that we said goodbye to Peter Smith at the end of June this year. Many who work in the field of addiction treatment, or who have come through Broadway Lodge, will remember Peter for his dignified and thoughtful professional demeanour and exceptional knowledge of the support that goes in to providing a treatment that delivers real, abstinence-based recovery. Peter in his formative years at Broadway Lodge was Head of Counselling. However, as he moved into Senior Management and was away from the day to day operational element of the counselling team, you would sometimes find him in the staff room, fiddling with stuff, adjusting the patient board, tidying up and checking information in the counselling department and offering advice where he could. Peter also could be relied upon to deliver lectures in the morning as he is a great orator. He also was an integral part of setting up the appointment of Support Workers at Broadway Lodge. For many years Peter was the on-site practice Supervisor for the Social Work student on placement at Broadway Lodge before he handed it over. His passion is definitely counselling and support and he was always able to provide support and advice to members of the counselling team that required it, as well as the rest of the organisation.
Peter was with Broadway Lodge for 25 years and enjoyed respect throughout the field of addiction treatment and recovery. We will miss him and wish him a long, happy and peaceful retirement.
